LTO tape is a low-cost home for data you must keep for years. Quantum states that at PB scale it costs a fraction of public cloud and other cold storage.
Active Vault moves tapes to an offline partition. Ransom Block (i3 and i6) adds a physical barrier between sequestered tapes and the robot.
EDLM scans media in the background and flags suspect tapes. LTO media is rated for up to 30 years of archival life.
Modular libraries and Capacity-on-Demand slot licensing add capacity in steps, from 8 slots (SuperLoader 3) up to 14,100 (Scalar i6000).
iLayer monitors the library, explains problems in plain English and guides repairs. Advanced Reporting and a REST API automate routine work.
AES 256-bit encryption, FIPS 140-2 Level 1 validated key management and WORM cartridges support retention and privacy requirements.

³ For LTO-10, WORM is available on the 30 TB cartridge only. Compressed capacity assumes 2.5:1. LTO-10 drives cannot read or write LTO-9 or earlier media.
Encryption key management
Centralized encryption key management built into Scalar libraries.
Drive support: i3 with LTO-7/8/9; i6, i6000 and i7 RAPTOR with LTO-7/8/9/10. Each VM needs 4 GB RAM and 16 GB disk.
Data integrity option
Extended Data Life Management: policy-based media health checks that run in the background.
⁴ Full scan time is for a full LTO-10 (30 TB) tape and shrinks with less data. EDLM is an optional licensed feature.
Management option
Trend reports built from the library's own media and drive history.
Connectivity option
Connects SAS tape drives to Ethernet networks over iSCSI.
